An example of a test of a beamer

Projected rough image: neither the densities nor the colors are respected.

Projected Image with video projector RGB gammas calibration: The densities and the gray balance are respected but the colors are not.

Supplementary test:

Projected Image with video projector RGB gammas calibration and with use of its I.C.C. profile: The densities and colors are respected as well as possible, within the performance limits of the video projector.

Aberrant RGB gammas of this video projector make it unusable for video projection. Moreover, the luminosity and contrast ratio measured with Eye-One Beamer are definitely much lower than the announced (and published!) performances by the Vendor.

Even with an I.C.C. profile, details will be lost in the sharp reds, blues will be violet, and cyan de saturated (see test card on the right hand side):

  • In: RGB PAL/SECAM I.C.C. profile

  • Out: R' G' B' projector X I.C.C. profile

Conclusion:

Quickly buy PC Expert January 2004 and ask to be refunded of your video projector X.
You are lucky: Not only it has stupid gammas but also it has neither the luminous power nor contrast advertised by the Vendor!
